Today (Sun 5th) we completed the upgrade of our site system back end to Mambo 4.6.1 and rolled out our new Logo & Flash as well.
Mambo is open source based upon PHP. We made the decision to go with Mambo in January this year. It has been a learning curve but well worth the effort. Mambo allows many exciting and easy to use add-ons and is robust, secure and very flexible. The Mambo community is very large and experienced. In September Mambo released a major re-write in Version 4.6. It had a few problems and we waited for version 4.6.1 to be both released, stable and fully tested. We offer websites based on mambo for our clients. This new version of mambo is the fastest and best yet. We fully tested and backed up our systems before the upgrade. In going from version 4.5.4 to 4.6 and then to version 4.6.1 only took 45 minutes and our site was offline for no more than 20 minutes in total. We had no problems. We are now prepared to upgrade and install and use version 4.6.1 We will take the same attitude to Windows Vista when it is released. We have tested Vista and like it very much, however we will not use beta and early release software for any mission critical systems or computers. We are planning a couple of new sites based on mambo and have a test site running which we will release shortly. This includes the option to change the site template on a per viewer basis. Finally we rolled out our new logo today. Many thanks to the design team for their effort. The team are working on a flash logo/banner of which we put up the first example today. We have only recently got into flash and hope shortly to be proficient enought to offer flash to our clients. |
