Today is the day that Windows 7 from Microsoft goes on sale. Whilst we are in the website business we feel this is important enought to warrant some comment as we have been using Windows 7 for some time now.
We have been in the Microsoft Tehnical community for many years as a registered partner. Therefore we get all the current and beta software. A few months ago we received the relase candidate of Microsoft 7 to test. We had a laptop not being used so we installed and tested it. This was so good we took the laptop to Cyprus for 8 weeks whilst at the office there. As members of the Microsoft comminity we received our full version in late August and it has now been installed on all our main PC's. Which is extremely rare for us to change so soon. so why???
Our first impression was of a very fast and easy to install system. The start up and shut down time is amazing compared to Vista. Also when you have Vista and the desktop comes up you know that you have only a few minutes to go before you can use your PC, not with windows 7 its only a few seconds!!. Laptop power managent is excellent and less reboots are needed.
Its very fast, it works with more hardware that Vista did, overall it is probably the best from Microsoft for many years.
The problem with Vista was it was a great idea that never worked. Getting it to work with hardware was a major problem and some would just never work. With windows 7 most work fine. So far 4 different printers have been plugged and work worked without even needing set up disks. One old scanner wont work with Windows 7, but our BT dongle does whereas it would not with Vista 64 bit.
We have mainly 64 bit machines and run the 64 bit versions of Windows and for the first time serious investment in computers is getting some speed results.
Normally we wait a few months to try new operating systems so this is a first for us. We still have a PC running XP in the office, as this runs the DVR Camera system adn that never worked with Vista. We have thought of changing to Windows 7 and am confident it would work. However we like to have a old machine around for testing. A further PC has Vista and will remain with it also for testing purposes.
So goodbye Vista! we could say we will miss you but would be lieing.
